Sokat fogyaszt a Bitcoin - Bitcoin consumes much

Valahol olvastam (rá lehet keresni a neten), hogy a BitCoin több energiát fogyaszt, mint egyes országok teljes elektromos energia fogyasztása (pl. Finnországé), és a BitCoin vízfogyasztása is túl nagy. Mit kapunk ezért cserébe? Azt, hogy a bűnözők, a gazdagok és a diktátorok jobban el tudják rejteni a pénzügyeiket. Erre azt tudom mondani, hogy ha ezek miatt nem tiltják be a BitCoin-t, akkor a Földön fejetlenség uralkodik. Persze lehetne még gondolkodni a dolgon, pl. betiltás helyett vessünk-e ki rá 100%-os adót... de úgy érzem, a Föld sürgető környezetvédelmi problémái miatt a betiltás lenne a jobb megoldás. Persze elképzelhető, hogy ha a BitCoin-t betiltják, akkor a mesterséges intelligencia fog sokat fogyasztani ahelyett is. A mesterséges intelligenciát valószínűleg nehezebb lenne betiltani, de ennek az energiafogyasztására már ki lehetne vetni valamilyen extra adót (ahogy "a szennyező fizet").

I've read somewhere (you can search the web for it), that BitCoin uses more energy than the total electricity consumption of some given countries (e.g. Finland), and BitCoin also uses too much water. What do we get for that in return? That the criminals, the rich and the dictators can more easily hide their finances. To this, I can say that if BitCoin will not be banned for these reasons, then headlessness rules on Earth. Of course, we could think more about this, e.g. should we impose a 100% tax on it instead of banning... but I feel that for the urgent environmental problems on Earth the ban would be the better solution. However, it is imaginable that if BitCoin will be banned, then artificial intelligence will consume much even instead of BitCoin as well. It would probably be harder to ban artificial intelligence, but on its energy consumption some kind of extra tax could be imposed (like "polluters pay").

Ne színezzük a műanyagot - Don't color plastic

Az jutott az eszembe, hogy a számítógép billentyűzete lehet fehér és fekete is. A lombsöprű műanyag része pedig lehet narancssárga és feketés is. Tehát a műanyagokat színezni szokták. De vajon ez a színezés környezetbarát? Úgy sejtem, hogy nem. Minden festék készül valahogyan, és a készítés során sokféle környezetszennyezés történhet. Sok festék, ami a befestett dolgokkal együtt a hulladékba kerül, hasonlóképpen környezetszennyező. Utána is olvastam egy kicsit az Interneten, és azt írják, hogy a fekete és színes műanyagokat nehezebb újrahasznosítani, és valószínűleg nem is egészségesek. Nem tudjuk, mi okozza az ózonréteg romlását, és nem tudjuk, mitől pusztulnak a méhek. Nem tudjuk, hogy képesek leszünk-e a légkörben az üvegházhatású gázok mennyiségét alacsonyan tartani. De valamit viszonylag könnyen meg tudnánk tenni: abba kellene hagynunk a műanyag termékek színezését, akár azon az áron is, ha a színűk nem lesz homogén (pl. újrahasznosított műanyagok esetén). Sőt, jó lenne, ha még a textíliákat sem festenénk be olyan gyakran. Ezzel pedig még akár pénzt is tudnánk spórolni. Csak az kell hozzá, hogy az ilyen termékekre legyen kereslet (pl. a divatszakma, illetve a környezetvédő mozgalom támogatásával), vagy a színezett műanyagok be is legyenek tiltva, vagy legyenek jelentősen megadóztatva. Valószínűleg ezt az ötletet érdemes lenne jobban kidolgozni.

It has come to my mind that the keyboard of a computer can be either white or black. The plastic part of the "leaf broom" (lombsöprű) can be orange as well as blackish. Thus plastics are many times colored. But is this coloring eco-friendly? I conjecture that it is not. All dyes, paints and colors are manufactured in some way, and during this many kinds of pollution can happen. Many colorings that go into waste together with the colored things are likewise polluting. I have even read a bit about this on the Internet, and it is written that the black and colored plastics are harder to recycle, and they are probably not even healthy. We don't know what causes the deterioration of the ozone layer and we don't know what makes the bees die. We don't know if we will be able to keep the amount of greenhouse gases low in the atmosphere. However, there is something we could do relatively easily: we should stop coloring plastic products, even if their colours will not be homogenous (e.g. in case of recycled plastic). Moreover, it would be good to dye (color) textiles less often, too. This way we could even spare money. It only needs that there should be demand for such products (e.g. by the support of the fashion industry or the environmental movement), or the colored plastics should even be banned, or they should be significantly taxed. It is probable that this idea is worth elaborating.

Érvek a nagyobb laptop akkumulátorok ellen - Arguments against big batteries for laptops / notebooks

Az előző blogbejegyzésemben véleményem szerint olyan jó ötletet írtam le a laptop akkumulátorok ellen, amit érdemes jobban is kifejteni. Tehát, felmerült az ötletnek az a negatívuma, hogy a laptop akkumulátorok kellenek esetleges áramszünetek esetére. Erre én azt mondom, hogy akkor rakjanak a laptopokba 10 perces működést biztosító akkumulátort, ne pedig 2-3 órás működést biztosítót. Az áramszünetek ellen elég lehet ez a 10 perces működést biztosító változat, mert amint a felhasználó észleli az áramszünetet, valószínűleg elég neki 10 perc, hogy elmentse a munkáját, és szabályosan kikapcsolja a laptopot. Persze az eredeti ötletet még többféleképpen is tovább lehetne fejleszteni. Például, az jutott még az eszembe, hogy szerintem technikailag valószínűleg megoldható, hogy ugyanazokat a laptop modelleket kettő vagy háromféleképpen is árusítsák: az eredeti akkumulátorral, a 10 perces működést biztosító akkumulátorral, vagy akkumulátor nélkül. Ezenkívül még hasznos lehet itt a laptop akkumulátorok és töltők szabványosítása is, hogy különböző modellek akkumulátorait használni lehessen a másikban. Ha pedig ezeket az ötleteket a laptop gyártók nem akarnák önmaguktól megvalósítani, akkor meggyőzhetné őket a környezetvédő mozgalom, ami látható piacot is teremthetne a nagyobb akkumulátorok nélküli laptopokra. Esetleg politikai döntés is születhetne ez ügyben. Végül pedig felsorolnék még néhány érvet az ötletem támogatására:

• A nagyobb akkumulátorok nélküli laptopok gyártása csökkenthetné a költségeket (mind a gyártó, mind a fogyasztó számára), hiszen az akkumulátorok sok más iparágban is kellhetnek (pl. járművek, okostelefonok).
• Ez csökkenthetné a környezetkárosítást is, mert az akkumulátorokhoz bányászni kell, nem is beszélve a elektronikus szemét problémájáról.
• Lehetnek más, kevésbé fontos érvek, mint pl. nagyobb biztonság (pl. számítógépes biztonság megfigyelés ellen, vagy a felrobbanó akkumulátorok esete).
  
• Ha valaki amellett érvelne, hogy a laptopokat az emberek szeretik utazás közben is használni, arra azt válaszolhatjuk, hogy használjanak inkább okostelefont, ha már úgyis van nekik.

In my previous blog post, I think I have written so good an idea against laptop batteries that it is worth elaborating it. Thus, a drawback of the idea has come up, that the laptop batteries are necessary in case of blackouts (power outages). To this, I would say that they should put smaller batteries in the laptops enough for 10 minutes of usage then, not for 2-3 hours of usage. Against blackouts, this version providing 10 minutes of usage may be enough, as when the user notices the blackout, 10 minutes is probably enough for them to save their work and to shut down the laptop properly. Of course, the original idea could be developed further in many other ways. For example, it has come to my mind that it can probably be solved technically that the same laptop models shall be sold in three ways: with the original battery, with the battery enough for 10 minutes of usage or without any battery. Apart from this, the standardization of laptop batteries and chargers can also be useful here, so that the batteries of different models can be used in the others. In case the laptop vendors did not want to implement these ideas by themselves, then the environmental movement could convince them, which could also create a visible market for the laptops without "big" batteries. Maybe even political decisions could be made in this case. Finally, I list some arguments to support my idea:

• The production of laptops without big batteries could reduce costs (for the company / customer), as batteries are required in many other industries now (like vehicles, smartphones).
• This could also reduce the harm to the environment, while mining materials is required for the batteries, not to mention the problem of e-waste.
• There could be other, less important considerations like more security (like IT-security against surveillance or the case of exploding batteries).
• In case someone argued that people like to use laptops during travelling, then we could say that they should use smartphones instead, if they have one anyway.

Gyártsanak laptopokat akkumulátor nélkül! - Let laptops be produced without batteries!

Korunkban egyre több akkumulátort gyártanak a Földön, mert elektromos autókba és okostelefonokba is kell. Az akkumulátorok sokasága azonban jelenleg nem elég környezetbarát. Ezért el lehet gondolkodnunk azon, hogy hogyan csökkenthetnénk az akkumulátorok számát. Nekem az jutott az eszembe, hogy tulajdonképpen a laptopokban (avagy notebookokban) az akkumulátorokra nincs is olyan nagy szükség. A laptopok szép lassan leváltják a PC-ket, de a PC-kben sem volt akkumulátor, és mégis megéltünk nélkülük. Szerintem elegendő a laptopoknak az az előnye, hogy kisebbek és könnyebben hordozhatók, nem kell még ezen kívül vezeték nélkül működniük is, hiszen ez úgyis csak néhány óráig tart! Szerintem a legtöbb ember vezetékes hálózatra kötve használja a laptopját, akár otthon van, akár a munkahelyén, és ez idő alatt az akkumulátor léte hiábavaló. Sok embernek egyszerűen nincs is szüksége többre (max. áramszünet elleni védelemre jó ilyenkor, de valószínűleg nem éri meg). Tehát véleményem szerint van létjogosultsága az olyan laptopoknak, amikbe nem tennének akkumulátort, és ezáltal kevesebbe kerülhetnének. Persze egy gazdagabb rétegnek továbbra is gyárthatnának laptopokat akkumulátorral (sőt akár napelemmel) is, de semmi sem indokolja, hogy ez legyen a mainstream. Tehát, azt javaslom a döntéshozóknak, gyártsanak laptopokat akkumulátor nélkül!

In our days, there are more and more batteries produced on Earth, as they are required for electric cars and smartphones as well. However, the multitude of batteries is not eco-friendly enough in the meantime. That's why we can be thinking about how to diminish the number of batteries. It came to my mind that batteries in laptops (or notebooks) are actually not that important. Laptops slowly replace PCs, but there were no batteries in PCs either, and we could live that way, too. I think it is enough advantage for laptops to be smaller and more portable, they do not need to also work without electricity supply, as this lasts only for some hours anyway! I think most of the people use their laptops plugged in, no matter they are at home or at the workplace, and during this time the existence of the battery is superfluous. Many people simply do not need more (or it may be good against power outage, but it is probably not worth it). Thus, it is my opinion that there is a market for such laptops that do not contain batteries and therefore cost less. Of course, laptops could continue to be produced with batteries (or even solar cells) for richer people, but nothing justifies that this should be the mainstream. Therefore, I suggest to decision makers, let laptops be produced without batteries!
